In the Census records for 1880, in Lockridge Township, Jeffrson County, Iowa, which was the location of the earliest Swedish rural settlement in the United States, New Sweden we find:
Andrew Weden (Age 40) and wife Carrie (400, both born in Sweden, with the follosing children: Selma (9), David (7), Clara (5), Amanda (3), and Alma (1)
In the Iowa Census for 885, in Orient Township, Section 24, Adair County, Iowa: Andrew Weden (44) and wife Caroline Weden (45), with the following children: Selma (13), David (13), Clara (11), Amanda (9),
Delia (6), Ella (4) and Arthur (2).
A map attached shows part of Orient Township. The earlier map shows the E.W. Brooks farm and the Giffey farm on section 24. Apparently Andres and Caroline Weden moved to Orient Township between the births of Ella and Arthur, about 1882.
The entire U.S. Census for 1890 was destroyed by fire; however the 1900 census for Union Twp., Adair County, Iowa shows: Andres Wedean (b. Sweden, Feb 1840) and wife, Louisa (b. Sweden, Oct. 1838); and in Orient Twp., Adair County, Iowa: David Wedean (b.1873) and sisters Delia (b. 1879) and Ella (b. 1881) and brother, Arthur (b. 1883).
The 1920 census for Holdredge, Nebraska shows: Andrew Wedean (80), from Sweden in 1871, wife Louisa (age 81, b. in Sweden), and daughters Delia (41) and EllaIt appears then that the Wedeans came first to New Sweden, Iowa in 1871, moved to Adair County around 1882, and to Nebraska sometime before 1892. Andrew Wedean was back in Iowa with another wife in 1900, so it seems likely that Carolina Selim, his first wife died sometime in the 1890's (July 10, 1895. Relatives recall cousins who had some type of millinery or florist shoop in Nebraska. These could have been daughters Delia and Ella who came with stepmother to Nebraska bfore 1920.
