John G. Gorby was born on 25 May 1792 in probably Washington Co., Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth (Betsy) Barnett.
Youngest child. Managed the plantation and mill his father left him till 1835 when he sold it and bought 200 acres from Mr. Wood located about 10 miles out of Moundsville on Bowman Ridge and Little Graves Creek. He donated part of his farm for the first church in the community (now known as Bowman Ridge Methodist Episcopalian Church.

Info from "The Gorby Family Book" 1978- have photo copy of just 1 page. States Elizabeth was born on the ocean while her family was coming over from Ireland (not true).
